"On May 27, 1965, lightning struck the First Church of Christ church in Simsbury, Connecticut, sparking a fire in the church, causing substantial damage. The storm knocked out the power to the town, delaying alerting the volunteer fire department personnel. The police canvassed the area to alert volunteers. The fire was put out eventually and the steeple stablized. Later it was removed, repaired and renovated. Some time later it was put back in place after the church was repaired."
